My family and I have lived in Angleton, almost continuously, for the last 15 years. I live here with my husband, Erik, and two of our three children: Jonathan (8) and Clara (5). Our oldest son, Gavin (19), lives in Lake Jackson. My husband graduated from Angleton High School in 1998, and my grandparents Stella & Marshall Ramirez grew up here before moving to Clute for his pipefitting job. I’m originally from Clute but spent a great deal of my childhood in Angleton visiting family and as a Volun-Teen (age 9 yr - 14 yr) with United Way at Cypress Woods Care Center where my mother worked. My grandpa passed and my grandma, Stella Ramirez Gresham lives in town with her husband Tom. My parents, Debby & Marshall Ramirez, live just south of Angleton city limits in the ETJ.
Sports in Angleton have been a part of our family for years from baseball, Upwards basketball, soccer to Tae Kwon Do. Our oldest participated in each, received his black belt, and preformed for Team USK. You can still see his picture in the window under "Patience." Our younger two recently began their sports journey with soccer and Upward basketball and they love both.
After adopting a strict budget and positive spending habits in our early twenties, I’ve been blessed to have the ability to be a stay at home mother to my children since completing my Mathematical Science BA from the University of Houston Clear Lake in 2010. While raising my children, I’ve had the opportunity to volunteer my time to help many of our family members, friends, and friend’s children with their math needs. From elementary age needing a stronger foundation, high school students with complex concepts, or higher calculus equations at the college level, I’m the friend they call on!
My passion for problem solving is what led me to choose mathematics as my major. Researching topics, collecting data, and analyzing information are all things I find very rewarding. Give me a topic, and I will find out the who, what, where, why, and how it's going to affect surrounding things, good and bad. Though my focus and heart belong to mathematics and problem solving, I also enjoyed using my electives to learn more about photography, art, graphic design, and literature. I use both art and math to create my own woodworking plans and builds. I’ve designed and built a loft bed, wall shelves, bookcases, and a tv console. I love doing crafts with my children and friends whether hand painting shirts for school or painting front door decorations. Recently, I was able to fulfill a childhood dream: draw and design our family home. In my spare time, I love to read both fiction and non-fiction books, history, life management, and special topics.
I am currently attending Angleton University every Thursday evening to enhance my knowledge of all of the city’s different departments and prepare myself to serve our community. I always try to buy locally first to support our businesses and town. Multiple times a year, my family donates shelf stable foods to the food pantry, candy and essentials to the soldiers, and whenever the animal shelter voices a need. I also volunteer at my children’s school when extra help is needed. I am teaching my children the importance of serving through all of these actions. When our oldest was younger he volunteered at the library every summer and daily at Tae Kwon Do. Our 8 yr old is counting the days to his 12th birthday, so that he can, too!
I am running for Angleton City Council, because I want to serve my community. I want to see Angleton continue to thrive and prosper while also preserving our small, hometown feel. I love our town and want to help by promoting responsible growth to ease the growing pains burdening our neighborhoods. Continuing to strengthen our infrastructure is also a top priority. We need the roads, drainage, water, and wastewater capabilities to be able to handle all of the new homes being built and future growth. All the while, I want to help our small businesses and make it easier for our neighbors to be successful. Through all of this, I want our children to grow up, still be able to recognize Angleton as their home, and want to raise their children here.
My goals for Angleton City Council:
-Represent the citizens of Angleton to my fullest abilities
-Support our dedicated City Staff in conducting the city’s business
-Promote responsible growth
-Continue strengthening our city’s infrastructure
-Support small business where possible
-Preserve Angleton’s sense of community
My family and I are very fortunate that we are able to call Angleton home. Other cities may have more options, but they’re bursting at the seams. None of them compare to the feel and sense of community that Angleton offers.
I look forward to the opportunity to serve our community and would appreciate your support.
